How to Play Carrom Board Game – Beginner's Guide
1. Understand the Setup
The Carrom board is set up with:
- 9 White coins
- 9 Black coins
- 1 Red Queen (center)
- 1 Striker (used to strike other coins)
Coins are arranged in a circle with the red Queen at the center.
2. Choose a Side and Striker
Players choose sides by toss. Select a comfortable striker that suits your grip and aim.
3. Start with the Carrom Break
The player starts with a “break shot” using the striker to scatter the coins. A good break gives early advantage.
4. Pocket Your Carrom Men
Your aim is to pocket all your coins (black or white) before your opponent. Use angles, rebounds, and strategy.
5. Scoring Points
- Each coin: 1 point
- Queen (if covered): 5 points
The game continues until all coins are pocketed or a score (like 25) is reached.
6. Capture the Queen
Pocket the red Queen and immediately cover it by pocketing one of your own coins in the same turn. If not covered, the Queen is returned to the center.
7. Continue Alternating Turns
Each player takes turns. If a coin or Queen is pocketed, you play again. Otherwise, the turn shifts to the next player.
8. Fouls and Penalties
- Pocketing the striker
- Not covering the Queen
- Coin leaves the board
- Incorrect striker placement
- Final coin pocketed before the Queen
Penalty: One of your pocketed coins is placed back by the opponent.
9. Winning the Game
Win by pocketing all your coins and capturing the Queen. Highest score wins after all rounds.
